Even though everything changes in digital marketing, one tradition remains the same at Tytanium Ideas: Fuel Days. For my first Fuel Day, I traded my laptop for lake views and spent my birthday exploring South Lake Tahoe with my boyfriend. Tytanium gives every team member a paid day off and $250 to “fuel” whatever recharges us, and this quick escape filled my tank with nostalgia, adventure, and plenty of good food (and beer)!
Breakfast at Red Hut Café
We started the morning at Red Hut Café, a cozy diner that felt like a time capsule in the best way. The smell of sizzling bacon and fresh coffee hit as soon as we walked in. We ordered their classic pancakes, some of the fluffiest I’ve ever had. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich with crispy hashbrowns! I was so full, I’m honestly not sure how I was able to go on a hike after that. It reminded me of the breakfasts you only get on vacation—no rush, just comfort food and good conversation. Red Hut was a great way to ease into the day and set the tone for a trip full of simple pleasures.

Cascade Falls Trail
After breakfast, we headed to Cascade Falls Trail near Emerald Bay. The hike wasn’t too long—just under 1.3 miles round trip. But, boy, did I learn that sometimes 1.3 miles can do a number on your knees and hips when most of the terrain is uneven rocks! Every step was worth it, though. The sound of the waterfall grew louder as we climbed higher. The trail ends at a massive overlook where you can see Cascade Lake below and Lake Tahoe beyond that, separated only by forest. It was the kind of view that makes you stop talking, just to take it all in. Definitely a highlight of the day.
Camp Richardson General Store
We made a quick stop at Camp Richardson, and stepping into the general store immediately brought back memories. My dad used to take me here when I was a kid. The creaky floors and warm wooden walls hadn’t changed a bit. There’s something grounding about going back to a place that holds memories from your childhood.

Chai at Cuppa Tahoe
Midday, we took a break at Cuppa Tahoe, a hybrid coffee shop, library, and coworking space. It was such a hidden gem. We ordered two chai lattes and settled into a nook surrounded by bookshelves. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, filled with soft conversation and good music. It was one of those unexpected stops that ended up being a favorite. I could see myself working from there if I lived nearby. It gave us a chance to rest and reset before the rest of our itinerary.
Shopping at Heavenly Village
Next, we wandered through Heavenly Village. I hadn’t been there in years, and it was fun to see which shops had stuck around and which ones were brand new. The village was fairly quiet—the Memorial Day weekend crowd had already left. More than anything, it was just nice to walk around and people-watch in a place that used to be a go-to stop on family trips. It felt familiar but different in the best way.

A Pint at South of North
When the late afternoon rolled around, we grabbed a couple of beers at South of North Brewing Co. This brewery had a relaxed outdoor vibe with string lights, trivia, and a crowd that loved the atmosphere as much as the drinks. I ordered a light beer, and we sat at a table, people-watching and enjoying the moment. It was one of those places that doesn’t try too hard—it just *is* cool. This stop was a perfect way to wind down before dinner and soak in the Tahoe vibes.

Dinner with a View at The Grove Beach Bar & Grill
We wrapped up the day with dinner at The Grove Beach Bar & Grill, and honestly, we couldn’t have picked a better place to end things. We sat outside on the deck, which opened right onto the beach. The view? Unreal. The sky was painted in oranges and pinks as the sun dipped behind the mountains. I ordered the fish and chips, which were crisp and flavorful, paired with one last beer for the day. We lingered longer than planned, just watching the water ripple and feeling completely content. It was the perfect finale to a day that felt like a vacation and a reset button.
